Centaurus (The Centaur) |
A large southern constellation, lying in the Milky Way and very rich in stars. It is one of
the ancient constellations recorded by Ptolemy (c. AD 140). It contains a number of
interesting objects, including the nearest star to the solar system, Proxima Centauri,
and the finest and brightest of all globular star clusters, Omega Centauri. See also: Table 4. |
